Antennas are virtually everywhere. From commercial applications such as smartphones, RFID tags, and wireless printers, to defense applications such as phased array antennas for aircraft radar systems or satellite-based, to provide integrated ground based communication systems.

Electromagnetic simulation is a valuable tool in antenna design and platform integration providing the designer the ability to virtually design and evaluate what if scenarios as well as verify the final manufactured design. ANSYS® HFSS™ excels at a wide variety of high frequency, full-wave, electromagnetic applications including antenna design and placement since it uses multiple advanced solver techniques to simulate not just the antenna but also the effects of its interaction with the entire system, including the feeding system as well as the platform.

Objectives

In this workshop participants will learn to incorporate circuit analysis into their antenna simulations so they can apply circuit based tuning techniques to make their analyses more efficient.

They will also learn how to take advantage of hybrid solution techniques to solve large, complicated analyses such as antenna platform integration, co-site analysis or large reflector dishes to improve simulation time and efficiency.

Finally, the workshop explores the analysis of phased array antenna’s from both an infinite and finite array perspective. Participants who complete this workshop will have the practical knowledge needed to develop antenna designs using ANSYS HFSS.

Speaker

Zheng Boyu

Dr. Zheng Boyu joined CAD-IT in 2013, after working as team leader and R&D engineer in various organisations such as Institute of Microelectronics (A*STAR Singapore), United Test and Assembly Centre, EPCOS, and Huawei. He holds a Ph.D. from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.

Dr. Zheng has a strong background in RF/Microwave, wireless, and microelectronics with more than 14 years’ experience in the research and development of RF circuits, antennas, and high-speed systems including design and electrical modeling, optimisation, prototype development and testing. He has also 6 years’ experience in microelectronic industry focusing on advanced packaging development. Dr. Zheng is now a Lead Technical Consultant for ANSYS’s electronics business unit in the region.
